Last week Susan Szenasy from metropolis magazine spoke here
at UNCG. She talked about how research from many different areas of study is beneficial
to the design process. Especially when approaching the area of green design. She
played a short film of different designers that were exploring more efficient sustainable
designs; ranging in subject from light pollution, water insulation and paper
folding. She also talked about our reliance on technology, her comment was that
technology will not solve the world’s problems, but we will with the help of technology.
This impacted my design philosophy by reminding me that
technology is a muli-tool, not a total problem solver. Also that design is heavily impacted by the research
we do and how varied that research is.
