I am no longer posting on this blog because of its insane innocence with Google accounts, and lack of a professional look and image posting options. As much as I enjoy seeing that I have had some 4,000 views, they are mostly superficial. Farewell blogger, hello wordpess. 

In my mind a home is a place that you have lived in for a while and you return to at the end of the day to sleep. For me I live in a dorm with 100 other people, I share my room with a room mate, have a shared bathroom, kitchen and living space. Though this is only typical of a hall style dorm. Most people are living in apartments with shops or schools near by but when we think of how we will live in the feature we think of buildings with plants all over them or self supporting buildings where you can go about your whole day with out leaving the building. When I goggled Futuristic living, and Futuristic homes I found all these sleek buildings, some that look to be "green", others that look like Panton, Ero Sarriene, and a bit of Le corbusier all collided. I think as we move forward more people will live in apartments closer to the city for an easier commute, with more public transportation options near by. Or we will adapt the houses we already have in to more sustainable houses.

Susan Szenasy's speach

Last week Susan Szenasy from metropolis magazine spoke here at UNCG. She talked about how research from many different areas of study is beneficial to the design process. Especially when approaching the area of green design. She played a short film of different designers that were exploring more efficient sustainable designs; ranging in subject from light pollution, water insulation and paper folding. She also talked about our reliance on technology, her comment was that technology will not solve the world’s problems, but we will with the help of technology.

This impacted my design philosophy by reminding me that technology is a muli-tool, not a total problem solver.  Also that design is heavily impacted by the research we do and how varied that research is.
